[SunRescue] Setup Sun box with Cable modem ISP

Have you set up DNS on your Sun box? It should point to your
ISPs nameservers (your cable router should be able to give you
that information).

Have you set your gateway address to 192.168.0.1 (your router)?

Is your netmask 255.255.255.0?

That should do it.

Subject: Re: [SunRescue] Setup Sun box with Cable modem ISP

Thank you for your feedback:

When I had dsl connection, there was a router between the lan
and dsl modem. Under DSL setup, we had static IP address vs.
dynamic ip address used in cable modem.

Under current setup, the cable modem is in place of dsl with
router connected to it. The router ip address on the lan side
is set for 192.168.0.1. The sun machine is setup with lan ip
address of 192.168.0.4 and default router is 192.168.0.1.

Within the LAN side, i have no problem of pinging the sun
machine, and from sun machine to others within the lan. In
addition, I had configured netscape enterprise servers and able
to access programs served by nes from within the lan.

The issue I have right now is that there is no internet
connection from the sun machine; whereas other machine connected
to the router can. I guess the machine has to be setup to
acquire the dynamic ip address from cable modem.

Your advise greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Paul
