You bet you're ass, if you get shot with a 30-06, and are wearing anything
less than steel armor plate, you'll have a hole in you.

Even a .22 can pierce armor - take the 22-250 (rifle) Remington that's a
favorite of varmint hunters.  That round has a *flat* (1.5 inch drop)
trajectory out at about 200 yds.  52 grain bullet, 3750fps muzzle velocity.
Compare that to a .357 Mag's (pistol) average muzzle velocity of 1300fps,
and you can see the difference in rifles and pistols.  Even a .45 ACP
(pistol) has a muzzle velocity of only about 900fps at the high end.
