Assuming that basenji is a linux machine, /var/log/messages would be the first
place I'd look.  If nothing is in that file relating to SSH, then I would look
to see if SSH keeps other logs files.  Checking the logs is the first thing I
(granted I suck at administration) do when I get connection refused errors of
any sort.
