It's not an HTTP proxy, but Hogwash (possibly linked to from Snort's
web site) looks on the interesting side. It uses Snort's engine to
inspect packets including the contents so could be used for firewalling
at the application layer.
I've never used it, so I can't say how stable or resource hungry it is,
but it might be worth looking at.
