Hrmm, hadn't heard that one before.  We had a K420 (I think that was it)
when I started at the current client site running Oracle.

Amen.  The L-class box is a beautiful server.  Our new Oracle server (L2000
2x440 PA8500/2GB RAM/FibreChannel to Hitachi Array) runs rings around the
old K420.  The client's admin tried to talk me into buying a K 'cause that's
what they've been getting all along.  The roughly equivalent K class (and
roughly is being kind) was at least a factor of 2 underpowered and a factor
of .5+ more expensive, not counting service costs...

The A-class boxes we're getting now for support tasks are beautiful as well. 
Fits my idea of a real server - good speed, decent I/O capabilities, minimal
local storage (enough for OS and maybe apps).  The new E3800 from Sun would
be my ideal "data pump", if only it had at least room for 2 local disks (so
I can mirror the OS).  Give me a pair of 4.3 or even 9gb disks local to the
box and I'd be a happy camper...
