My position with my current and former employers has been that I'll take a
less than cutting edge box, but I want the nicest/biggest damn video card
and monitor that I can twist their arm to pay for! 

I can live without the 10 or 20 percent increase the latest CPU might give
me, but if I'm going to be in front of a screen all day, I want it to be
flat, hi-res, and sharp. And generally, IMHO, a nice fast video card will
make the same machine "feel" faster most of the time.
