[SunRescue] Irix 5.3

I have 5.3 but I have to see how well it will copy on the WinBlows box. (I
may have to move the IDE burner to the Linux box and try it if Nero doesn't
work.) I have made one copy of 5.3 currently but have not tested it to see
if it boots. I also have the NFS CD as well. I could copy them and let you
test them if you like - you'd be testing my backups. ;-)

As for the speed issue. As usual it seems that RAM makes a much bigger
difference up front than CPU speed. I gave a friend of mine an Indy with a
100mhz R4400 cpu in it and it was slow as a dog even with 5.3 until we
upgraded it to 128meg of RAM from 64meg. (64Meg and my previous engineering
department was using it as a server - go figure.)

Anyhoo, let me know.

I'm on the prowl. After scoring an Irix 6.2 upgrade, I'm searching for 5.3
(or later, whatever). Preferably, I'd like to have 5.3 since I have a
couple older Indigos that I'd like to get running. I'm scared to put 6.2 or
later on them because the CPU is only 33Mhz.

If anyone has a set for sale, please let me know. Ebay is killing me
lately - I had a good line on a media set, but was outbid by a dollar. Ugh!
