Qmail is good if you can *start out* with it; however if you've got a 
legacy Sendmail config, try Postfix - www.postfix.org - I switched over a
10,000-user mail server to Postfix in less than 30 minutes (and that included
downloading and compiling the program).  All your existing config/virtualhosts/
domains/etc files will drop right in.
