in case i misrepresented my case earlier, let me clarify what i am 
running (as i don't want to mislead those of you who have been so 
helpful)... and i quote "4.0.2 FWS Released March 2 15:36:12 PST 
1990"... the only history i have on this machine is that it was retired 
to a university dumpster, so i haven't an inkling about what patches 
have been installed... so it could very well be 4.0.3 but i have no 
idea.
