some progress has been made... i got to the "OK prompt". i keyed in 
"boot -s" which resulted in a boot failure. i will enter the man-
machine dialogue...

so i was perplexed... but i kinda guessed that the "<color><param>FF00,0000,0000</param>oot<color><param>0000,0000,0000</param>" meant that all 
i needed was to type "b -s"... and so i did...

then i get a single line of my earlier problem:


"ie0 blah blah blah".


this is followed by a password prompt. if i key in a password, it is 
rejected and it asks again (as might be expected). if i key in no 
password, it exits single user mode and i am back where i started.


i read the FAQ and found a line of interest... 


"<color><param>0100,0100,0100</param>Beware: when specifying "boot -s", or any boot command with flag 
arguments, the standard default kernel/sparcv9/unix kernel will be 
booted; you need to specify "boot kernel/unix -s". 


so i tried variations... "/kernel/unix -s ", "/kernel/vmunix -s" et al... the 
only thing that boots the system is "b -s" or "b /vmunix -s" and that 
ultimately puts me back at the password prompt.


i am left with the obvious conclusion that vmunix is the default kernel 
mentioned in the FAQ and i don't know where to go from here.
