Rewrite of a message that the list ate yesterday:

When dealing with a 386i, remember that it is not like any other Sun.
It is not based on the Motorola 680x0 line, nor the SPARC family. So anything
that specifically references the 680x0, Sun-3, Sun-4, or SPARCs is not talking
about the 386i, which is based on the Intel 80386. Furthermore, the 386i line
is the one that everybody forgets about, so statements about Suns in general
may or may not apply to the 386i. The last SunOS for the 386i was 4.0.2 (.3?),
so anything talking about Solaris does not apply to the 386i. Even statements
about 4.0.x may or may not apply, since the 386i's OS was written on the
east coast and differs from 4.0.x for other platforms, above and beyond the
differences necessary to support the different hardware.

In short, the 386i is a specialized beast even among Suns. The place to
go for information about it is the 386i mailing list, SUN-386I at YorkU.CA.
