Help!

I think I posted this before but it was during the whole "Sun has a small
lawyer picking a fight with me" episode.

I'm managing a Sun E450 server with Solaris 2.6 and an AIT 1 Sony/Qualstar
tape drive on the system. (Sony SDX-300C)

What's happening is that the tape drive is not compressing no matter what I
do with it. We're using ufsdump to do the backups of the 27gig of data on
our 40gig RAID.

The tape drive is supposed to be compressing to approximately a 50gig
capacity but won't go beyond the native size at all. Most of what we're
backing up is text so I'm understandibly puzzled. I've managed to get
Qualstar to swap the drive out with the same results.

I've tried different /dev/rmt/ settings as well as different lengths and
densities.

I'm at my wits end with this thing.

Does anybody have any ideas? Anything anybody could point me to would be
appreciated.

Sincerely,

Mike Hebel
