here is the fun part, single mode or multi mode?  they aren't
interchangeable, well, you might get it to work for short runs, if the
plugs fit, the barrels are a different diameter IIRC, I know the fiber
specs are different, hooking single mode into a multi mode device is like
trying to pour antifreeze in the small end of the funnel.  Single mode
stuff is used for the long runs (like to the next county) multi mode is
used for shorter run stuff, the atenuation is higher, but the fiber has a
bigger core, it is easier to shoot a laser into, especially if the
connector isn't dead center perfect, or there is tension on the fiber
where it plugs in.
