I bet you could do it.
I managed to do it and took pictures along the way. Used a cheap old iron 
probably better suited to working on vacuum tube TVs and stuff.

I want to do a page on this to submit to sunhelp. Having the pictures 
that I took would have let a newbie like me remove much less material. 
(and nearly filing clear through the leads)
