Why not split the difference?

I suggest exmh, which is a graphical frontend for mh written in Tcl/tk.  It 
can use all sorts of helper proggies to do spell checking, inbox sorting, mime 
handling, integrated PGP and GPG support, etc.

The beauty of it is, it takes very little time to learn the simple command 
line mh proggies well enough to deal with your mail over a terminal connection.


Best of all, it's all free.  If you're interested, most linux distros have all 
of the software installed and configured by default (RH does for sure).
