The R4600PC is a little underpowered for true 3d or video work (by today's
standards). However, the processors are as easy to upgrade/swap as a SS10
or SS20. I have a R4K 100Mhz system, as well as a R5K 180Mhz system (both
Indys) and I couldn't be more pleased with both. It's not just the
processor power you have to look at, but general "funness" of the
workstation. I happen to get a big kick out of SGIs, other folks feel hhe
same way about Macs or Suns.

Really, if you have any desire to won an SGI system, go for it. You can't
beat the price - especially considering you get all the peripherals
including a monitor! The monitor alone goes for that much in retail
channels. It's really quite worth it, honestly. Indycams are cheap, and
you don't even need one of those - use any composit or s-video source and
you have a much beter video source anyway. I use my VHS camcorder from time
to time, and once in a while I even hook up the video out on my cable box to
it in order to capture video. Such fun, not even an AV mac is as much
fun...

The next step is an O2 - If I can find one that fits the bill.

Kurt
