I and a buddy of mine have thought about the panelvan concept as well!
However, while the idea of a Suburban might be sold to spouses under the
guise of "honey- sure it's big, but it's 4x4 and has space for the dog in
his crate as well as room to haul stuff" etc.
A panelvan would have _no_ other obvious purpose but for the hauling of big,
old computer stuff, and would light up her radar like an inbound nuclear
missile <grin>.

Heh. Howabout GMC Panelvan? A buddy & I have considered one a few times...
Not a full-size van, but the Snap-on tool truck/UPS delivery truck style van
:)
Suburban's aren't bad, but it seems to me height is important in a rescue
vehicle too...Actually, an Astro minivan works out reall well. Big enough
to swallow an IBM 19" AS/400 Rack (believe me, if it'll take that, it'll
take a lot of things...) Still would be nice to have something like a tall
panel van though...
I sense thread divergence, crossing this to packrats :)
