I have a "TOSHIBA, CD-ROM XM-3301TA, 0272" CD-ROM on my Sparc-2 that so
far as I know is able to act as a boot device so long as the appropriate
connector trace between two solder pads on the back near the jumpers.
As I recall the labels on the PCB are clear enough to determine which to
cut in order to set it to use 512-byte blocks.

FYI my Sun-original CD is reported as "SONY, CD-ROM CDU-8012, 3.1a".

I've never actually tried to boot any of my machines from CD though as
I've always run ancient SunOS-4.1.1U1 (on the Sun-3's) which I had on
tape, or NetBSD, which I either boot from tape or off the network.
