Don't know about plastic membrane keyboards. But a jamming power switch
on my SGI Octane was cured by a little bit of silicone grease. It was
not the actual switch in the chassis, but the plastic cap and piston
mechanics in the "skin" of the machine that jammed up. It stuck most of
the time due to friction when the button was pressed. The silicone
grease reduced the friction to make it go. This was applied 15 years ago
and it is still going well as of today.
