Intel and AMD do virtualization differently.  Back when they had their
initial releases of their technologies, the AMD way seemed to have
significantly less overhead, but Intel has a bigger market presence.  We
know that story always ends.

After VT-d and EPT, it's entirely possible that Intel came out ahead; I
haven't kept up with how AMD's technology has progressed.
