I've seen pretty similar speeds with a USB 3.0-connected Crucial M240 SSD
that I have in a FirmTek miniSwap/U3 external enclosure[1]. I haven't done
any formal benchmarks but copying large VM files to and from the drive
usually hits around 250-260MB/s. This with a Mid-2012 Mac Mini and Mid-2011
MacBook Air (the latter using a CalDigit Thunderbolt Dock for USB 3.0).
