" From: John Francini <francini at mac.com>
"
" They drop DSL because they want to get rid of the copper infrastructure --
" which in some cases is many decades old. And yes, I know that in many case the
" copper pair in your home doesn't run all the way back to the CO any more, but
" goes only as far as a subscriber line concentrator or some such -- but they
" want to get rid of even that part of the copper wiring plant.
"
" If you get FIOS installed, they will *remove* any existing copper wiring if
" you have overhead service. (Kinda hard to do that for underground.) So it's
" effectively a one-way trip.

my friend ran into this when his mother - who runs a business from
home - got fios. he had to forcibly remind the installers that
-his-line- [separately billed] was not part of the deal.

btw my copper does run all the way back to the co, a 10-minute walk
from here.

" From: Lionel Peterson <lionel4287 at gmail.com>
"
" It kinda makes sense, given their policy of ripping out copper wire feed into
" the house once you install FiOS - "Once you go Fiber, you'll never go back (to
" copper)"
"
" They want to run away from copper it seems...

they have to share copper, per federal judgement. afaik they don't
have to share fios. you'll never go back b/c you're screwed.

yeah they want to run away from copper. verizon wants to take you
prisoner. the only thing that keeps their prices down around here is
comcast competition, and the only thing that keeps comcast from being
awful is verizon competition.
