They drop DSL because they want to get rid of the copper infrastructure --
which in some cases is many decades old. And yes, I know that in many case the
copper pair in your home doesn't run all the way back to the CO any more, but
goes only as far as a subscriber line concentrator or some such -- but they
want to get rid of even that part of the copper wiring plant.
If you get FIOS installed, they will *remove* any existing copper wiring if
you have overhead service. (Kinda hard to do that for underground.) So it's
effectively a one-way trip.
