Can you get a cylinder with a relatively small center bore and run a
loop of EL wire along the bore? You'd have to fit the power supply into
the handle somehow, of course. An LED won't do much to light it up, not
least because the plexiglas won't scatter it well (though you can
improve that part by wet-sanding it lightly all over with 400 to
600-grit wet-or-dry paper).
