I didn't have to do much beating. I just turned off most of the candy I'd
turn off in XP. It's a perfectly usable host for Visual Studio. Funny
that I love writing software for Windows[0], but I can hardly stand to use
the OS at all.

Completely antagonistic to anyone trying to get work done, unless there's
a paying job to be had watching videos.

My work environment is primarily OSX, FreeBSD, and (sadly) HP-UX 10. I'm
pretty happy with it.
[0] The API's not bad, considering how old parts of it are.
