Oh, totally.  He's nailed it.  If your data is confidential, ENCRYPT IT
and take a little actual care who you're sending it to.  If you can't
even be arsed to make sure of your addressee, let alone encrypt your
oh-so-sensitive message or do anything to protect it aside from
indiscriminately attaching silly boilerplate disclaimers to everything
you send, either it can't have been very important in the first place,
or you're so careless you deserve whatever you get (or lose).
