To amplify a comment I made to Mr Bill. Last night I went through a few of
my fountain pens. Some had disposible ink cartridges which dried out.

I cleaned the tips by soaking them for a while in COLD water. I was told that
some pens are put together with glue that will dissolve in hot water.

I refilled the cartridges using Schafer ink and a syringe with a flat tip
that came in a now used up ink jet cartridge refill kit. 

I stopped at a local art supply store today. They had Pilot "V Pens" 
(sold as the Varsity disposable fountain pen in the US) in medium blue
and black. They also had several brands of pen ink in blue, black and red,
a 10 or so brands of "India Ink".

I had been there a few days ago and bought some V Pens, and today I
bought a bottle each of Waterman "Florida Blue" and black ink.
