that's our politicians all over...  our democratic system tends to
self-select irresponsible power-addicts who will do or say or appear
to be anything to get their fix, and devil take the hindmost[0].
anyone with a shred of normalcy would step back from the brink, but
they won't.

this is probably true of any bureaucracy, corporate as well.  enron...

machiavelli makes very good reading.  ultimately he was just
describing human nature.
