If you will check, the doctrinal issue for the shcism (the technical term
used in the west) concerned the procession of the Holy Spirit.
The west believed the Holy Spirit proceeded from the Father and the Son.
The east believed the Holy Spirit proceeded from only the Father.
The schsim appears to be mutual.
The infallibility of the Pope is a "big dot issue". It was a point of
irritation but not a "show-stopper".
The Pope did anathematize (sp?) the Patriarch and the Partriarch did
anathematize (sp?) the Pope.
In recent years, they have worked together more closely though I am not sure
of the state of the reconciliation.
The Pope and Patriarch have celebrated joint masses on several occasions.
It appears that they have decided to agree to disagree but continue to work
toward reunion.
