Unless it's PCI only (i.e. has no AGP slot), it'll run OS X 10.5.0,  
provided you are a wee bit canny with it :)

Tray loading and later slot loading drives are standard laptop units  
in G3 iMacs. Replacing those isn't a major problem. The early slot  
loaders use an old, obsolete type of slot load laptop drive which I've  
only ever seen in the iMac G3 and in my G4 Powerbook. I have half a  
feeling there's a conversion kit available from one if the Mac  
specialists to convert those types of drives over to a standrad laptop  
unit however, but I can't remember who does them :(
