Dell parts are notoriously proprietary for no good reason at all.  You
have, at a start, modified ATX and BTX motherboards that put screw-holes
in strange places, power supplies where the 20 or 24-pin "ATX" power
connector has a few interesting pins swapped around to ensure hilarity
at first power-up, and CPU coolers that demand the rest of the
suboptimal chassis.

They're rather a bit like Compaq used to be in that regard.
