Yes.  In many respects it was technically superior, but it was closed
source and (I'm tempted to add "thus" here, but I'm not sure it's
deserved) lost the fight with X.

But, with pixels still in the 75-100 pix/inch range, it needed
resolution-depedent support for high-quality output.  It was a bit
messy, since PostScript goes quite out of its way to be
resolution-independent, but it basically worked.

Now, if only someone could scare up docs on the blitter chip....
