Here you can still get a cradle for your cell phone which connects to
a handsfree device, external antenna and the car's electrical systems.
I think they even come with an optional "power booster" (amplifier).
Motorola has one phone which is self contained, but looks like an
old style handset. I've only seen it connected to a car, so I
assume it does not have a builtin battery or antenna, but I may be wrong.
At least one GSM provider here allows you to "twin" you phone, so
that your car phone and pocket phone have the same number.
I still have the bag that a Motorola cell phone came in, it
contained a car phone about the size of a paperback book,
with a regular handset and antenna. Mine had a cigarette
lighter plug and power cord, but I think you could also
get them with rechargable batteries.
The phone is long gone, and a Sony ICF-2010 lives in now.
