I don't have much ALFA experience, beyond having one as a rental car in
Europe a few years back, and, 'way long ago, taking part in rebuilding a
blown 1600 engine out of a Guilia. Well, OK, I did do a few delivery drives
from the port in Jacksonville to the dealer in Atlanta in the late sixties,
but the speedometers were disconnected so I can't tell you much. I can tell
ou that it was fun, though.

The 1600 engine was interesting ... all alloy, except for the rod sticking
out through the side, right through the main oil gallery. This was befoe
MIG and TIG got into the welding business, but the machine shop managed to
patch up the block, at least on the outside. We ended up boring and
sleeving the oil gallery. This was over 40 years ago, so details like "why
not just get a new engine or block" have escaped me.

I've always liked the way ALFAs drove, though. Great handling and a much
more adult ride than the Britcars of the era.
