I have unused Cat5e run from basement to office and I imagine there devices that will carry a PS/2 keyboard, mouse and VGA signal over Cat5e (not a KVM-based solution)...

This is more along the lines of what I was looking for:

http://www.minicom.com/kvm_mini.htm

It is a small "dongle" that attaches to computer on one end, KVM on the other. I'd prefer a unit that is the reverse (the "transmitter" attaches to a KVM/Computer, and the "receiver" attaches to a monitor/keyboard/mouse). To use this device, I'd have to have a KVM in my upstairs office... All I want is a mouse/keyboard/video extension unit.

The unit above is about $175 new.
