I can't tell you how many calls I get for the same position, thanks to Monster.com - there seems to be an entire industry that simply feeds on the candidate listings on Monster.com. I have some unique qualifications (Pharma software valildation, IVRS exp., along with a good selection of software industry exp.) and it is funny to have two or three head hunters email me the day a new job that could be related to me - typically about 1,5000-3,000 miles away...
As Nadine said - if there are two resume submissions for the same position, the candidate is eliminated, to avoid conflict over who "deserves" the placement fee. On the other hand, the head hunters are reluctant to give you enough info about the placement to prevent you from going after the job without the head hunter firm.
