In 1996, Micropolos took a serious nose dive. The drives were so bad,
we rarely got one that would run more than two weeks before dying.

They screamed and vibrated right out of the box.

Rumor was that Micropolos was assembling drives in simple offices
because they'd had to shut down most of their clean facilities, and they
were just shoving drives out the door to generate cash.

Don't know if that's true or not, but it sure seemed like something
really bad was happening.

The longest run I ever got was about 2 months, screaming like a banshee
the entire time. We had a bunch of them we'd ordered and just shoved
them in systems for temporary duty, and sometimes just for grins,
betting on which day they would fail.
