If it came from a good degree program, then it is highly relevant.

If it is one of those you got by learning a single language on a PC
(usually Java or C++) in college, then it is worthless.

Unfortunately even some formerly good schools have basically turned into
a place where you learn to be buzzword compliant, and this only makes
the problem worse.

The other thing you have to fight is the mindless push for Java, C++,
and C#, none of which is that great, and which are often a liability for
current projects.

Worse, a lot of old, reliable code is being rewritten in one of those
languages, for mostly arbitrary reasons.
