On a similar note - has the Spanish American war been paid for yet? Until very recently, there was a tax on our phone bills to pay for that (last I looked this was about 5 years ago)...

I remember about 10 years ago the Federal Gov't wanted to raise taxes on telcos, and the telcos threatened to make the taxes a line item on every subscribers phone bill. I believe that caused much wringing of hands an gnashing of teeth in Washington D.C....
