Unfortunately context and usage come into it.

A baseball bat makes a very good club.  A club could make a reasonable
baseball bat.  If you knew nothing about either activity, could you tell
the difference between a club and a baseball bat?  Heck, a broom handle
could server either function!

How about the difference between a butcher knife, a hunting knife, and a
"weapon knife".  "Genetically" they are all the same.  When I carry my
new butcher knife home from the store in a brown paper bag am I carrying
a "concealed weapon"?  What if take the subway home?

An overzealous cop or DA can ruin your life over any of these.
