This sounds like the elusive metric crescent wrench.

I have a friend who proudly displays his metric crescent wrench
any time he opens his tool box in front of someone.  He's not
just screwing around.  It actually says METRIC in original raised
lettering on the wrench.  I don't know where he got it.
