I use used car batteries for a number of tasks like this. They may
not provide the current required to start a car reliably, but
they can push plenty of amps to run ham radio gear with NO ELECTRICAL
NOISE. I just save my car batteries instead of trading them in when I
replace one, or trade in the oldest one out of my battery rack. I have
used two car batteries on a 24v UPS in my 24v truck for years without
trouble. The batteries charge off the vehicle power when the engine
runs or from the UPS if I plug into line voltage, which is rare. I
mostly bought the UPS to act as an inverter.

Should I not be doing this?
