Personally, I go with -j3 or -j4 on dual processor P2, P3, P3 Xeon, and
P4 Xeon machines.  Significantly faster than just -j2.  However, on my
single proc P4 on my desk at work, I don't notice any significant speed
up by using anything higher than -j1 (which is to say, not specifying
it).
