[geeks] Another SGI/Octane question...

The lightbar is suppose to glow red on boot but only during POST.  If 
POST is all well, it then changes to white. 

Not sure if they are similar but with the Indy, a blinking red LED 
indicates bad RAM and a steady red LED indicates any other hardware 
issue.  May very well be the mobo (bad or just not properly seated) as 
Rob indicated.
