Why?  The loss of a few of the static binaries is a bit of a pity, but
not something that can't be overcome.  The loss of static libraries will
be brilliant.  The number of people who shoot themselves in the foot by
using statics is scary.

"I applied a patch and now my program won't work - your patch is broken".
Try explaining to them that their app is broken because it's statically
linked against an earlier version of one library, but dynamically linked
against the current version of another.
