I got my wife to use edlin once and she figured it out (remotely 
resurrecting a dead PC). A modal word processor should be a blessing 
compared to that. Actually vi is not complicated once you get past the idea 
of modes. Its kinda like CatOS (and VMS), there are only three commands - 
set, show and clear. In vi there is / and : and the "letter" commands like 
x and dd. OK, I am guilty of over-simplification, but anyone with brains 
should grasp vi if its presented well. Somewhere I have a 2 page PDF 
cheat-sheet that lists all the vi functions one will need for most editing.

Besides, she "grew up" with DOS based Word Perfect, nuff said.
