Brambles. They feed you, they secure your property from trespassers
and they take almost zero maintenance (though with some watering and
fertilizer they will feed you abundantly).
I've known others to plant bamboo, which is terribly invasive and won't
stop until it hits pavement or some other impenetrable barrier. It's
an excellent privacy screen, and has many practical uses after you
harvest it.
