It is possible that someone came by in person and waved a bunch of cash
at him - I've had that happen to me once or twice, and greenbacks are
attractive enough to delist items in favor of instant cashola.

I wouldn't say that it is.  Shit happens, after all.  If you were the
winner and didn't get your Boss, then yes.
