I thought every soft-power SPARC, SGI, PC, and Macintosh "did the right
thing"[1] when you pushed the power button (or power key, for the Mac). My
U10, PC, Octane, and PowerMac/7300 all do.  Granted, if you've got older
equipment, you might want to keep the tube alive for a few seconds so that
you can power it off manually, but this doesn't seem like much of a
concern for newer stuff.
