NECs don't work.  Some Toshibas work.  Every Pioneer and Plextor I've ever
tried has worked beautifully and even had the 512/2k jumper so that you
could use it on a PC or Macintosh.

I've got a 40x Pioneer in my Indigo2, and, despite the slghtly nonstandard
form factor (It's just a tiny bit too short, depthwise, making it "fun" to
extract from the case), I'm very happy with it.  At $previousOrkPlace, we
had a Plextor, and it never gave any problems, either.
